HTC Droid Incredible

A Review of The HTC Droid Incredible

My first impression when I took it out of the box was that it was a really nice looking. You can tell that it was in fact inspired by a race car when you flip it over. There are aerodynamic curves that give this phone a very unique look. It comes packed with clear film protection over the camera lens and screen. Being the fanatic that I am, I left the film on until I received my Skinomi screen protector.

Upon taking it out of the box, and activating it, I realized that this phone had 100 times the capabilities of my Blackberry. The time is displayed in a large font and the weather is located right underneath. My old Blackberry trackball was now replaced by an optical joystick. The jury is still out on the joystick as it’s still small and difficult to use if you have large fingers. Also, on the home screen are 6 icons for phone settings. Immediately, I replaced the Internet icon with the new Skyfire 2.0 browser. This allows me to watch videos that most other phone browsers can’t display.

I was next led into a tutorial on the QWERTY virtual keyboard. The biggest concern I had with purchasing the Incredible was the lack of a physical keyboard. I’m not a fan of virtual keyboards, and this tutorial didn’t ease any of my fears. The only noteworthy thing I learned was that nobody hits the right letters but the system is smart enough to think about what word you were trying to type and suggests that word for you. That is the only bright spot for typing. It does seem to take extra time to type, but maybe the more time I spend on it, the better I’ll get.

Setting up email was very simple, as was adding contacts. After my address book was loaded, I was very eager to make my first call. The call features were also appealing to me. The voice quality was crystal clear, the noise reduction was amazing, and the handset speaker volume was not crackly like I was used to. The phone screen goes dark once you put it up to your ear and automatically turns back on once you lift away from your ear. Some people reading this may say I’m probably amazed by bright, shiny objects too; but the phone to me was breath of fresh air.

The next thing I set up was my Wi-Fi connection to my home network. This was very easy. It pulled up the local networks faster than my laptop does. Since this feature drains the battery life, I keep it turned off unless I absolutely need to use it. Speaking of the battery life, I find it to be less than satisfactory. I know that other sites have reported that the battery life is above average but so far I haven’t seen that. I am going to let the battery drain all the way down again and then recharge it to full battery to see if this helps train the new battery.

The camera is pretty amazing. It’s 8-megapixels and takes great pictures. I’m happy to leave my digital at home when going to casual events and not needing the professional portrait shots. The flash is up to par with other similar cameras so the camera is a plus for this phone.

Overall, I would rate this phone at 4/5. I continue to find new things that I like about the phone, but still don’t think it’s perfect. I have had a few programs that I have forced to close because they crashed but so far this is happening on every phone we see. The internal 8GB memory is a great feature and you’ll only need to get a microSD card if you want to run certain apps, or want the additional storage space. I love how the Snapdragon processor is very fast and allows my phone to transition seamlessly. All in all, I’m very happy with the phone and the positives outweigh the negatives. So far, I’m happy to say that the HTC Droid Incredible is the phone of choice by Droideup.com.
